How is Resin Bound Applied?2019-10-21T19:10:43+00:00
Firstly the aggregate and resin must be mixed thoroughly in a forced action mixer. The mixed aggregate is then trowelled onto the sub base and trowelled to a smooth and seamless finish. A scatter coat of crushed glass may be applied for extra ‘anti-skid’ properties.
Can the system be laid in any weather?2019-10-21T19:20:09+00:00
Moisture affects the stability of any resin application so it is critical to avoid installation when it is raining, very humid, or there is dew present.
Temperature will also affect the curing times of the resin. In hotter weather, an installer will have less working time on the trowel and in colder weather a catalyst may be added to speed up the curing times.
Whats the difference between Resin Bound and Resin Bond?2019-10-21T19:21:25+00:00

Resin Bound

Dried aggregate are mixed with a UVR resin and the resulting mix is trowelled ot=nto a solid base to create a smooth durable finish.

Resin Bond

This system works by spreading resin across the base and the aggregate is scattered on top of it. It is not a smooth finish, as not all the aggregates stick to the resin so has the appearance of a fine gravel finish.
What base can Resin Bound be laid on?2019-10-21T19:22:32+00:00
Res Tec requires a stable substrate to install upon. A typical base for a resin bound surface, whether new or existing can include the following:
  • Tarmac
  • Concrete
The most important thing about the sub base is that it is as solid as possible. A site visit will be necessary to determine the stability and suitability of the current base for a resin bound system or to determine if ground works will be necessary before fitting Res Tec.
For newly laid sub bases it is imperative that all areas have cured prior to application and that moisture levels meet the requirements of our resin manufacturer.
Is Resin Bound Suds Compliant?2019-10-21T19:23:12+00:00
Res Tec is highly permeable and teamed with a permeable substrate or base layer it can provide a SUDS compliant external surfacing solution, which offers an environmentally sound alternative to traditional paving products.
How deep is Resin Bound laid?2019-10-21T19:23:48+00:00
Once laid on a solid base we recommend that Res Tec be laid at 18mm deep. So it offers a perfect alternative in a space where there isn’t a lot of depth to work with and might remove the need for a dig out for alternative paving products.
How do I maintain my resin bound surface?2019-10-21T19:24:24+00:00
Resin Bound is a low maintenance exterior surface, but to keep it at its best, it should be kept clean of fallen leaves and organic debris by brushing it and hosing it down with a regular garden hose. If you choose to use a pressure washer make sure you use a moderate pressure setting and water temperature. High pressure and temperature could potentially damage your resin driveway.
Properly maintained resin driveways will give your property the wow factor for years to come.
